The Sprudge Report - This Week In Caffeine
Caffeine news, not caffeine news, and more Build-Outs than you can shake a stirring stick at.
A big week of Builds
We’re really cooking now. This week we featured not one, not two, but THREE new cafes as part of our Build-Outs of Coffee series. From the simple and to the point of Greenstreet Coffee in Philadelphia to the Nordic influence at Tacoma’s Naomi Joe to the routine of, well, Routine all the way up in Victoria, BC.
It’s decaf, naturally
The holy grail of the decaffeinated arts has long been a coffee that naturally produces no caffeine, no processing or chemicals needed. For a lot of reasons, though, that’s been a bit of a sticky wicket for the past two decades. But now, researchers in Brazil have begun planting new varieties of naturally decaffeinated coffee plants in growing regions around the country.
More than just caffeine
Coffee is so much more than simply a caffeine delivery vehicle, and science is here to prove it. Yes, caffeine helps wake us up in the morning, but there’s something else in the entire experience of coffee that provides additional benefits beyond that single peppy molecule.
Cold brew for a hot summer
Summers in western Florida are not temperate places. They’re hot, they’re humid, and for many, hot coffee may simply be out of the question. Luckily, Amavida Coffee Roasters has a whole slew of tasty, seasonal-appropriate beverages to cool you in the summer sun. One of them is their all new Salted Caramel Cold Brew. It’s a tasty cold brew made with organic single-origin Guatemala, shaken with toasted caramel and topped with vanilla cold foam, caramel drizzle, and flaky sea salt.
Go Get Em Medansky
Is there a more iconic pairing in the Los Angeles coffee scene in the past 10 or 15 years than Go Get Em Tiger and ceramicist Ben Medansky? The pair have been working on and off for a decade now, and the classic Medansky mug once found at the original GGET location speaks to a certain—and exciting—time and place in specialty coffee. Now, in honor of the cafe/roastery’s 10 year anniversary, the world renowned ceramics maker is dusting off the wheel for a very limited run of GGET mugs.
The Coffee Sprudgecast: The One About Build-Outs Of Coffee (Plus We Rip The Bripe)
Grip it and rip it. On this episode of the Coffee Sprudgecast, our intrepid hosts are talking Build-Outs and taking hits off the Bripe. Plus, there’s a new Build-Outs of Coffee theme song to get stuck in your brain. It’s an earworm, so be careful.
