We get asked all the time: what coffee gear should I buy? Well—there’s so much coffee gear on the market right now, and so in 2025 we’re launching a new initiative on Sprudge that regularly features outstanding coffee gear from brands large and small across the industry. It’s a curated selection of cool coffee gear we love—this is Coffee Gear! This week’s gear is:
Acaia Umbra Lunar – Digital Scale
Dwell Dripper by Verve Coffee — Coffee Brewer
La Marzocco Home Linea Micra — Home Espresso Machine
Baratza Encore ESP Pro — Coffee Grinder
Ceado Hoop Brewer — Coffee Brewer
DiFluid AirWave — Air Filter
From Geneva to Brussels
As you are reading this, right this very second, World of Coffee Geneva is going on. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t look ahead to 2026, where the European leg of World of Coffee will be heading to Brussels, Belgium. It’s the fifth announced location for a World of Coffee even for next year and will be taking place June 25-27.
This week in Builds
We had three exciting new Build-Outs featured this week on Sprudge. First up is Small Batch Coffee in Vienna, Austria, a 35-square-meter dream cafe in the 2nd District. Then at the other end of the spectrum, Reno’s Hub Coffee Roasters opened an expansive multi-floor cafe, their third. Finally, it’s a pivot in Brunswick, Maine, to Coastal Coffee Tech’s new iteration, Tern Coffee & Tea, which focuses on sourcing and roasting instead of gear and repair.
A sparkling coffee wine
There’s nothing better in the summer months than a nice, easy-drinking sparkling wine. But what if you want your wine to taste more like coffee? Well, for that there’s Panther Cuvée, a new Brut-style sparkling wine from Mawby made with Panther Coffee’s Wonderland blend dark roast. It’s pet-nat for the espresso martini crowd.
This week in coffee health
We have been publishing daily coverage of coffee news for a decade now, and in that time we’ve written literal hundreds of articles about coffee’s effect on human health. Yet somehow, new discoveries are being made seemingly every week. For example, this week a new study found that instant coffee leads to greater likelihood of age-related macular degeneration. Which is admittedly not great news. But then, as if to tip the scales back in coffee’s favor, another study uncovered how caffeinated coffee affects you on a cellular level and how it would ultimately lead to longer, healthier lives.
Press releases
From the press desk, we learned of European roaster manufacturer Typhoon making the switch to fully electric. After months of development, their entire line of roasters are now fully electric-powered.
Lynchian espresso, Cronenbergian price
Last month, we learned that the estate of the late auteur David Lynch was auctioning off many of his personal effects, which included his home espresso machine and grinder. They were, at the time, the most reasonably priced items in the auction lot. Well that’s not the case anymore, as both Lynch’s La Marzocco GS/3 and Mazzer Mini sold for astronomical prices. You don’t even want to know how much his Mr. Coffee sold for.
Coffee in Toronto
It’s been six years since our last tour of the coffee scene in Toronto, and as you can probably imagine a lot has changed in that time. One of North America’s great melting pots, Toronto is home to so many outstanding cafes, each offering their own unique take on coffee, many with global flare. And so this week, we welcomed back longtime Sprudge contributor Karina Hof, whose name you may recognize from her coverage of Amsterdam and The Netherlands at large, to check in on what’s hot in Toronto coffee in 2025.
